Automobile-Oriented Places: Crossroads Plaza, Cary, NC

It can truly be said that 100% of people who shop or work at Crossroads Plaza arrive by car: there are no transit services here, and no other land uses within walking distance. Even trips between shops in Crossroads Plaza are mostly made by car. Because of the large amounts of land required for parking and access roads, shopping centers such as this one are developed at about a tenth the density of traditional downtowns. Most large shopping centers are located at major highway interchanges. In this case, it is the 'Crossroads' of U.S.1 and Interstate 40.
